DUBAI: PayCargo, a leading logistics payment platform, has officially launched its services in the United Arab Emirates, marking a major shift in the region’s cargo operations.

Emirates SkyCargo has become the first airline in the Middle East to integrate the platform, introducing digital cargo payment solutions for its customers across the UAE. This move signals a transformative step away from manual, cash-based processes, towards faster, more efficient digital transactions.

Emirates SkyCargo customers can now make instant payments using credit cards or direct debit through PayCargo, enabling same-day or next-business-day cargo release. The new system aims to significantly reduce delays caused by traditional methods, improving customer service and internal workflows alike.

Tech-driven efficiency

PayCargo’s platform connects carriers, freight forwarders, and vendors, allowing seamless online payments within a single interface. The technology is expected to improve overall reliability and enhance speed in cargo release times – a critical benefit in a sector where timing is key.

Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, noted that the partnership aligns with the airline’s future-focused strategy. “The next era of logistics, and of Emirates SkyCargo, will be defined by smart technology and digital solutions,” he said, adding that PayCargo would help streamline transactions and unlock greater access to air freight capacity.

Eduardo Del Riego, President and CEO of PayCargo, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the time-saving and efficiency benefits. “By eliminating manual payment systems, we can provide a more efficient and reliable solution,” he said. “We’re thrilled to launch in the UAE with Emirates SkyCargo as our first regional partner.”

Strategic expansion

The collaboration follows a 2022 strategic alliance between PayCargo and Seed Group, a company of the Private Office of Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Al Maktoum. Seed Group played a pivotal role in introducing PayCargo to the region and supporting its expansion across the Middle East and North Africa.

The UAE’s continued investment in digital infrastructure and smart logistics has further supported this development. As a global trade hub, the country has prioritised multi-modal transport systems and technology-driven solutions to enhance resilience and maintain its competitive edge in international logistics.
